How customs charges work

For international shipments, customs formalities may apply:

These charges are determined by local regulations and are not added at the time of payment.

How and when you will be billed

DHL usually handles customs clearance.

• DHL may contact you by email or text message.
• You may be asked to pay customs charges either before or upon delivery.
• The payment terms and deadlines depend on your country.

If you do not pay the customs duties

In the event of refusal or non-payment of customs duties:

• The parcel may be held up by customs.
• The parcel may be returned to the sender.

• Return delivery charges may be deducted from your refund.

What is NORMAL (and not a problem)?

• Contacted by DHL regarding the payment of customs duties
• Delivery delays due to customs clearance

• Different charges for customers in different countries

These situations are common with international shipments.

When should you contact support?

Please contact customer service only if:

1. DHL is asking for information that you cannot provide
2. Your parcel has been held up by customs for an unusually long time.
3. You are not sure whether the request is legitimate
