The screen leaves marks (ghosting)

  Quick response

If your screen leaves marks (afterimages) when switching pages, this is called ghosting.

  • Ghosting is a normal limitation of current E-Ink technology.
  • It does not damage the device.
  • A screen refresh clears the afterimages.

Follow the steps below in order, without skipping any.

Important to know (before troubleshooting)

Ghosting (afterimages) is normal on E-Ink screens
A refresh clears the display and improves readability
Ghost writing (writing without touching the screen) is a different issue

Step 1 – Refresh the screen (recommended)

This is the fastest way to remove afterimages.

  • Slide up on the right sidebar to refresh the screen.
  • If you own an A6 X2 Nomad, you can also slide up on the left sidebar.

After refreshing, the marks should fade or disappear.

Step 2 – If the pen writes without touching the screen (Ghost writing)

If your issue is ghost writing (not ghosting), follow the steps below.

Adjust the Non-Contact Writing setting

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Display & Input.
  3. Tap Stylus.
  4. Choose Calibration.
  5. Select Non-Contact Writing.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 3 – Pen-specific steps (only if ghost writing continues)

For Standard or 1st Generation HOM pens:

Method 1

  1. Lift your pen.
  2. Press it vertically against a flat surface.
  3. Push until the nib is fully inserted.
  4. Repeat this several times.
  5. Test the pen on your Supernote.

Method 2

  1. Remove the pen grip.
  2. Press the pen against a flat surface.
  3. Reattach the grip.
  4. Test the pen again.

For HOM Gen 2 pens:

  • Remove the cap and grip.
  • Pull the pen tip out using pliers.
  • Clean the tip, check for blockages, then reassemble the pen.

Note

If you are not comfortable using pliers on your HOM Gen 2 pen, skip this step and contact support.

For LAMY pens:

  • Take a short video showing the issue while writing.
  • Send it to support for further assistance.

What is NORMAL (and not a bug)

  • Light afterimages after turning pages
  • Occasional need to refresh the screen
  • Slightly stronger ghosting after reading/annotating dense documents

ℹ️ These behaviours are normal on E-Ink screens.

When should you contact support?

Only contact customer service if:

  1. ghosting remains severe after several screen refreshes
  2. the display is difficult to read even after refreshing
  3. ghost writing continues after completing the Non-Contact Writing calibration
  4. you use a LAMY pen and need assistance (please include a short video)

Remember to specify:

  • your device model (A5 X / A6 X / A6 X2 Nomad)
  • your pen model (Standard / HOM Gen 1 / HOM Gen 2 / LAMY)
  • what you have already tried
  • a short photo or video showing the issue
